Examples

A vertical cut, shot and captioned for the feed.

Spoke to a Bloke × Morning Meetup A men's mental health ad campaign, cut vertical for paid social

What this usually is

A batch from one shoot day

The most common version. One day, several vertical pieces from the same footage, so the cost of the shoot is shared across all of them.

Cut-downs from something you already have

A brand film or an event recap, reshaped into shorter vertical pieces for the feed.

A recurring batch

A shoot day each month and a set of finished cuts, so there is always something new going out. Covered under ongoing content if that is closer to what you need.

Why vertical is its own job, not a smaller version of the main one

A 16:9 frame and a 9:16 frame are not the same shot cropped differently, even though that is how a lot of cheap social content gets made.

Framing for vertical from the start means more headroom above a subject, less reliance on wide shots that lose all their information when the sides get cut off, and captions placed somewhere that will not sit under a platform’s own UI. Shooting for 16:9 and cropping down afterwards works for some shots and ruins others, and it is usually obvious which is which once it is posted.

If the footage already exists and was not shot with vertical in mind, it can still be cut down, it just will not always fill the frame the way footage shot for it does.

Captions burned in, because the sound is off

9:16 · Safe margins respected · Nothing important under the platform UI

Sound off

Most of your audience never hears a word of it.

Every deliverable comes captioned, burned in or as an SRT. A cut that only works with audio loses the feed in two seconds.

Captions are not optional

Most social video gets watched with the sound off. A cut that only works with audio loses most of its audience in the first two seconds.

Every deliverable comes captioned, either burned into the video or as a separate SRT file if you are handling posting through a platform that generates its own.

What you get

A batch of vertical cuts, thirty to sixty seconds each, captioned and sized for wherever they are going. Square and horizontal versions from the same footage are available if you need to post the same content across formats.

What it costs

From $1,500. A shoot day and a batch of finished vertical cuts.

What moves the number: how many cuts, how many locations, and whether it is a one-off or the first month of something ongoing.

Kit

A Sony FX3, shot in 4K and reframed for vertical rather than filmed sideways and rotated. Handheld for most of it, since social content generally wants to feel close and immediate rather than locked off.

Edited in Adobe Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve, captioned before delivery.

Questions

Do you post the content, or just deliver it?

Deliver it. Files come by private Smash link, ready to upload, and posting stays with you or whoever runs your accounts.

Can you turn something around quickly?

Often yes, if it is arranged before the shoot. A same-day or next-morning cut changes how the day gets covered, so it is worth flagging at the quote stage.

Do you film in vertical, or shoot horizontal and crop?

Filmed with vertical in mind from the start where that is the brief. Cropping horizontal footage afterwards works for some shots and not others.

What platforms do you cut for?

Instagram, TikTok and LinkedIn are the most common. The aspect ratio and caption placement change slightly per platform, and that is worked out at the brief stage.

Who owns the footage?

I hold the copyright, and you have a licence to use the delivered videos from delivery, which becomes permanent once the invoice is paid. Full detail here.

What the content is for, roughly how many pieces, and where they are going. That is enough to quote from.
