I’m Declan Gale, a freelance videographer and editor based in Auckland. I film events, corporate video, brand films and social content, and I do the filming and the editing myself, which is usually the bit that matters. Most quotes cover an operator and send the footage off to an editor afterwards.
I studied film and media at the BRIT School in London for four years, then worked at London Filmed for three years, shooting and cutting ads, interviews, campaigns, events and livestreams. A lot of it was multi-cam on FX3, FX6, FS7 and FX9. Busy floors, fast setups, and comms that had to be clear.
I moved to Auckland in early 2025 and started the business here from scratch. Everything on this site has come from jobs since then.

How a job runs
You send the date and roughly what you want. I come back with an itemised quote, usually within a few hours.
Once it's accepted the date's held, and you get a delivery date in writing before the shoot.
On the day I turn up early enough to see the room before it fills and work out where I can stand without being in the way.
After it, a first cut lands inside the window on your quote. You send one set of notes back. Final files come by private link, graded and ready to post.

Kit and insurance
Sony FX3 as the main camera, with a matched second body where a job needs one. I edit in Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve.
Public liability insurance, and my kit is insured separately. Most venues want a certificate before you’re allowed on the floor, so ask and I’ll send it over.
Own vehicle and a full clean licence. Dual UK and NZ citizenship.
Where I work
Home base is central Auckland, and most jobs are around the city, from Britomart and Wynyard Quarter out to the North Shore, West Auckland and down to Manukau.
I travel for shoots around the rest of New Zealand, and to Australia when a project calls for it. Travel and flights go in the quote as their own line.
