The kit

What I shoot on

I shoot on a Sony FX3, a full-frame cinema camera. 4K up to 120fps, and it handles low light well enough that most evening jobs don't need extra lights. Where a job needs a second camera, it's matched to the FX3 so both angles cut together. Everything else is below, and it all fits in one car.

I'm on the job from start to finish

I'm Declan, a freelance videographer and editor in Auckland. I film and cut events, corporate video, brand films, promos and social content for businesses, agencies and artists. I do both jobs, so I'm thinking about the edit while I'm still shooting. I bring in extra crew when a job needs it, but I'm across it the whole way.

About
London trained, Auckland based

I'm a freelance videographer and editor based in Auckland.

I film events, corporate video, brand films, social content and creative work, and I do pretty much all of it myself.

I worked full time at London Filmed for almost two years, shooting and cutting ads, interviews, campaigns, events and livestreams. A lot of that was multi-cam on Sony FX3, FX6, FS7 and FX9. That work taught me fast setups and clear comms on a busy floor.

Since moving to New Zealand in early 2025 I've been taking on freelance shoots for brands, agencies and events across Auckland and wider New Zealand.

Before all that I trained at the BRIT School in London, studying film and media for four years.

I hold dual UK and NZ citizenship, a full driver's licence and my own vehicle, and I'm based in central Auckland. I trade as Declan Gale Videography.

Where I work

Home base is central Auckland. Most jobs are around the city, from Britomart and Wynyard Quarter out to the North Shore, West Auckland and down to Manukau.

I travel for shoots around the rest of New Zealand, and I can travel to Australia when a project calls for it. Travel and flights go in the quote as their own line so there's no surprise at the end.

What things cost

Starting points by job type rather than a day rate, because a day rate tells you nothing about what you end up with.

For context: freelance day rates in New Zealand generally run between $800 and $2,500, and a full corporate video project commonly lands somewhere between $4,000 and $12,000. The numbers below sit inside that.

Every job gets an itemised quote before anything is booked. No charge for the quote and nothing attached to it.

Quoted per project

Footage already shot? Long-form down to short, colour grading, captions and vertical versions, in Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve. Priced on length and how much footage there is, so just tell me roughly what you have and what you want out of it.

Most briefs land between these, and plenty sit outside entirely: a single multi-speaker talk, a half day, one interview and nothing else. Tell me the job and I'll price that rather than the nearest package.

Auckland-wide. Travel beyond 50 km is quoted per job. Prices are in NZD and there is no GST to add.
