How much does a videographer cost in Auckland?
The honest range, and what actually moves a quote up or down, rather than a single number that will not apply to your job anyway.
The range
Freelance day rates in New Zealand generally run $800 to $2,500. A finished corporate video project, shoot through to delivery, typically lands somewhere between $3,000 and $30,000 depending on scope. Editors working alone usually charge $75 to $150 an hour.
Wide ranges, because “video” covers a one-camera testimonial and a three-day campaign shoot with a crew, and they are not the same job at different prices, they are different jobs.
Bar length relative to $30,000. The first five are my own starting prices, the last two are the rest of the market.
What actually moves the number
A half day and a ten-hour day are not priced the same, and should not be.
A single two-minute film is one job. That film plus four vertical cuts plus a set of stills is a different edit, and the edit is what takes the time, not the shoot.
One operator, or a second camera, or a full crew. Each step up is a real cost, not a markup.
Same-day or next-morning delivery changes how the whole shoot gets planned, and it is usually quoted as its own line rather than folded into the base price.
Some quotes cover filming only, with editing sent elsewhere or costed separately. Worth checking what is actually included before comparing two numbers.
What a fair quote looks like
Itemised, so you can see what each part costs and remove something you do not need. A single flat number with no breakdown is harder to negotiate and harder to trust, not because anyone is being dishonest, but because you cannot tell what is driving the price.
