Guide

One number would not apply to your job, so this is the range and what moves a quote within it.

## The range

Freelance day rates in New Zealand tend to run $800 to $2,500, going on what I've seen quoted. A finished corporate video project, shoot through to delivery, typically lands somewhere between $3,000 and $30,000 depending on scope. Editors working alone tend to be somewhere around $75 to $150 an hour.

Wide ranges, because 'video' covers a one-camera testimonial and a three-day campaign shoot with a crew, and those are different jobs.

Edit only

From $600

Footage already shot. No shoot day, no travel, priced on length and volume.

Half day

From $800

Four hours, one location, one finished cut.

Social content

From $1,500

A shoot day built for short-form, a set of vertical cuts.

Event coverage

From $1,800

A full day on site and a recap edit. Second camera quoted separately.

Corporate / brand

From $2,500

One or two days, a main film and a vertical cut.

Small studio project

$4,000–$15,000

Producer, shooter, editor, graphics in house.

Production house

$15,000–$80,000+

Full crew, director, talent, agency involvement.

Bar length relative to $30,000. The first five are my own starting prices, the last two are the rest of the market.

## What moves the number

Hours on site

A half day and a ten-hour day are not priced the same, and should not be.

How many deliverables

A single two-minute film is one job. That film plus four vertical cuts plus a set of stills is a different edit, and the edit is where the time goes.

Crew size

One operator, a second camera or a full crew. Each step up adds people and kit, and the price follows.

Turnaround

Same-day or next-morning delivery changes how the whole shoot gets planned, and it is usually quoted as its own line.

Who is editing

Some quotes cover filming only, with editing sent elsewhere or costed separately. Worth checking what is included before comparing two numbers.

## What a fair quote looks like

Every deliverable listed, with a price against it, so you can see exactly what you are buying and drop anything you do not need. A single number with nothing behind it is harder to trust, because you cannot tell what is included.
